Simply put, the arts are essential to the proper functioning of our society. The arts continue to demonstrate their ability to provide positive impact on social issues that concern virtually every facet of South African society. The arts are especially important for our children. Students with an arts rich education:
Have better marks on average
Score better on standardised tests in reading and maths
Have lower dropout rates
Funding for arts education programs in schools has being cut back or eliminated. Many arts organisations have had to make drastic reductions in hours, and offer fewer productions. We hope to reverse these trends. The "My Dream for the Arts" movement is here to mobilise you to protect and grow the arts. We're building a nationwide collection of passionate people who will help guarantee that arts-friendly public policies are adopted at all levels, and that everyone can have access to the arts. We will focus on the implementation of five projects to support our goals of access to the Arts for all, quality Arts Education for children and young people and caring and appreciation for our artists. This campaign supports the work of the Arterial Network, Assitej and many other national organisations that lobby for the Arts in South Africa.
