Please join GJAE for a busy week of events sponsored by many of our allies. We'll be attending these events to show our support and to help get the word out about Fast Track and TPP!
Tuesday, October 15th
9 AM: Rally for Justice in Ecuador: Say No to Chevron's Abuses! Chevron is notorious for using the US-Ecuador Bilateral Investment Treaty to escape accountability when the oil giant was found liable to compensate Ecuadorean indigenous people for billions of dollars in compensation for poisoning the people, land, water, and wildlife of the Amazon rainforest. Now, Chevron's retaliatory RICO lawsuit against its Ecuadorean victims and their U.S.-based lawyer will go to trial in a New York courtroom before its hand-selected judge, a man who has repeatedly expressed outright hostility towards the Ecuadorians' fight for justice, and those who have advocated for them. TradeJustice activists will attend in solidarity and to alert participants of Chevron's role in pushing TPP - which will expand Chevron's power to use investor-state dispute resolution to evade responsibility in even more countries!
1PM: Wendy's Protest for Farmworker Justice in the Big Apple Support our allies at the US Food Sovereignty Alliance and the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) for a protest demanding justice for Florida tomato farm workers - among the economic refugees created by NAFTA. CIW has been a vocal critic of TPP and TJ activists will be on hand to support the protest, distribute literature, and to get people to sign letters to Congress on the link between free trade agreements and economic forced migration.
3:30-7PM: Support Colombia Peace Process - Oppose the Colombia FTA With the US-Colombia FTA in force, many of our worst fears have been realized. This protest at the Colombian Consulate will demand justice for workers, a real commitment tot he peace process, and an end to the FTA.
7-9PM: Food Sovereignty Prize Award Ceremony It's an outrage! TPP pusher Monsanto received the World Food Award this year. This alternative prize will focus on activists around the world's efforts to resist Monsanto's efforts to commodify life and control the world's food supply. TJ activists will be on hand to expose the Monsanto-TPP with fliers and letters to Congress for people to sign calling for "No Fast Track for TPP!"
Wednesday October 16th 4:30-9PM: The Colombian Peace Process: Year One After Tuesday's demonstration, learn more how Colombia has fared since the start of the peace process and the implementation of the Colombia FTA.
Saturday, October 19th:
10AM-1PM:Protest in Solidarity with the People of Colombia
Another protest in support of the people of Colombia, who continue to suffer from ongoing human rights atrocities and the effects of the US-Colombia FTA.
