Terry, your ad is not, 'ahmazing,' it is actually incredibly offensive.

As you no-doubt have seen from the hundreds of comments on your Facebook ad, people are dismayed at the complete lack of tact and historical perspective evident in your ad that reads, "Totally conquered this sale. Columbus Day Savings = Ahmazing."

Remove the ad, and issue an apology. In your apology, acknowledge that 500+ years of genocide is no laughing matter, much less a topic to be capitalized upon to advertise a sale. What will you do differently in the future?

Signed,

Hillary Lehr

By holding Macy's accountable, we can change the dialogue around Columbus Day and the genocide it celebrates. Instead, let's celebrate the strength, culture, and leadership of Indigenous People and work to support cultural respect and human rights.

Celebrating Columbus Day makes light of genocide, murder, rape, and torture of Inidigenous People's throughout North America. This 'holiday' invisibilizes Native communities that are still struggling for respect and recognition. This crass ad from Macy's is one of many offensive gestures that are unacceptable.
