How this will help

We are building momentum, but we just took a huge step backward with international sharking finning regulation.

Please take a few minutes to sign thispetition.

Send a clear message that the international community stands behind the CITES decision. In March 2013 the international community voted to place porbeagle, oceanic white tip, and hammerhead sharks as well as manta rays on Appendix II.  This would regulate international trade of these animals.  The decision was made only after sound science was present to committee members and lengthy debates concluded.

A 2/3 majority was required for each to pass.It was clear that the numbers of these species is plummeting.  Furthermore, it was clear that loss of these species would impact the health of oceans worldwide.  When they lost their effort to keep these animals out of Appendix II, these few nations announced to the world that they simply would not adhere to the international decision.  These defeats the strength of all international treaties.
