Education should be geared towards the goals of our society. The economic system is the perfect environmental assassin, and we all know it to be entirely unsustainable. A transition is a necessity. Our technological advances now allow us to utilize our urban landscape to grow vegetables. Teaching people to be self sustainable via 'aquaponic' systems (for example) in schools will be a great way to create a generation of adults that live with the Earth, and not just on it. We know that this is a vital decision in terms of educating people to consider the impact we have upon the environment. Children should ask questions, and not just regurgitating answers. They could benefit from collaborative learning, where critical thinking is encouraged, and not stifled.
We are setting up a charity that funds these new 'aquaponic' systems, and will pay for teachers to educate the youth in the subject of agriculture. So this means that the school board may not even have to allocate funding themselves.
Here are 2 very important videos that we believe parents, teachers and children alike should share and be influenced by..
- EDUCATION FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
- THE CRISIS OF CIVILIZATION

This petition will help raise awareness of the importance of horticulture lessons. We will realize that this is a necessary move to help create a society of informed citizens that aware of the natural world around us. It is likely to bring out our empathic nature, and lead to a global restoration of the environment by implementing our technologies to adapt to the changes that lie ahead. Agriculture is a growing business, and teaching people from a young age will create job prospects. Children should be given a more accessible route into a career in sustainable development, and perhaps even train to become teachers themselves.
This petition will help the school board in the UK to consider the social, economic and environmental benefits from teaching the youth about agriculture.
