I was outraged to hear your organization's recent statement that you are 'satisfied' that the Russian law banning pro-equality 'propaganda' does not violate the Olympic charter's anti-discrimination guarantee.
The sixth Fundamental Principle of Olympism, according to the Olympic charter is that 'any form of discrimination with regard to a country or a person on grounds of race, religion, politics, gender or otherwise is incompatible with belonging to the Olympic Movement.'
It says it right there -- 'incompatible.'
Your charter then clearly states that the mission and role of the IOC is to 'act against any form of discrimination affecting the Olympic Movement.'
This Russian law which targets 'homosexual propaganda,' including the display of any LGBT activity or pride, will inevitably affect the tens of thousands of Olympic athletes and fans traveling to Sochi this year -- not to mention every day, pro-equality Russians.
If this law doesn't violate the IOC's charter, then the charter is completely worthless.
I strongly urge you to reconsider your announcement and decision.

Stand up in solidarity with LGBT Russians.
