My very good friend, Zainab Shabo, 16, moved to Sweden eight months ago with her father and three younger siblings, ages 13, 11 and 10.
They separated in Turkey, on their way to Sweden. They were about to be flown across the world to live here together when they were stopped and told that only those under eighteen were aloud to pass together with one adult. Zainab, her father and three of her younger siblings got on the plane and were separated then and there from half their family. Little did they know that they would have to face the new culture without their beloved mother and siblings for the next eight months to come.
Her mother and five older siblings returned to Syria and are still there now. The Shabo family has had very little contact with the remaining members of the family and have no way to know if something has happened to the rest of the family or if they are even at the same place as they were before the move.
Recently, all members of the Shabo family were legally allowed to stay in Sweden as long as they wish (rather than just three years), something they are very happy about - but wish they could share with the rest of their family.
Some things don't show on the outside, but they hurt on the inside. Sometimes what hurts the most isn't the pain but the fact that no one can see.
If you know anyone like my friend Zainab, sign the petition with them in your mind. Know that just two simple words - your name - , the press of a button even, will make a difference and may help save Zainab and her family from the dark cloud weighing down on their shoulders.
There are many people who are in a similar situation, but few can smile as inspirationally as Zainab can, with their chins held as high. Help us save that smile before it fades away for good.

What we're planning to do is to get as many as possible to sign this petition. We have been collecting names around town as well as online and we have been interviewed by the local newspaper in order to try and spread our message to everyone we can. Our hope is that, with enough signatures we will get the people who are in a position to help to notice us and to want to help. We want to find the Shabo family and bring them to Sweden to live reunited with the rest of the family.
Sign this petition to help a fourteen year old to make a difference and help a Syrian family.
