This year, we are committed to providing our teachers at Vutakaka Junior School with something most teachers around the world take for granted…an office. Today, our teachers tutor students, grade papers, and meet with parents under a pop-up tent. They use pieces of coral to keep papers from flying away. They stand when seating is limited. When it rains, everyone huddles in the center. Yes, they have managed, thanks to their profound commitment to the kids. But they deserve something safer, stronger and better…a building they can be proud of, and a place that will allow them to flourish.
As we continue on the path toward sustainability, quality facilities are essential. Our goal is not to see Vutakaka Junior School scrape by, but to maintain a competitive, locally operated school, and let our teachers provide for the needs of ALL our students. We are doing everything in our power to achieve this goal, and you can help. The East African Center keeps overhead low, so we can keep our impact high. For this, we depend on you.
We are hoping to raise $10,000 to build and fully outfit an office. One way you can give is by sponsoring a student for $285 a year. By becoming a sponsor, you will be matched with a student at our school. We will send you photos and personal projects three times throughout the year.
You can also donate without sponsoring a student.
Please, contribute what you can, sponsor a student, and spread the word to your family and friends. As thanks, a graphic Boabob tree will hang in the new office with your name, a reminder to the teachers and students of how much we really care.
