I urge you to support Ohio H. B. No. 237, the Bill to repeal Common Core introduced by Rep. Andy Thompson on August 1, 2013. The bill would halt implementation of federal Common Core academic standards in the state of Ohio and prohibit the state from using the PARRC assessments or any other assessments connected with Common Core. Additionally, the bill prohibits the sharing of private student data with any entity that seeks to profit from the data or any entity outside the state with certain exceptions.

This petition will highlight the federal effort to circumvent local and state control over educational standards and testing while ensuring that Ohio legislators are aware of the growing public demand for a legislative halt to implementation. This petition will motivate Ohio legislators to provide additional sponsorship of H.B. 237 and serve to gather proponents that will shepherd the bill through the legislative process.
Submitting this petition at the beginning of fall session will rally a public groundswell of attention, force prompt committee action and place legislators on the record with support or opposition.
