Huge floating cities of more than 5,000 people can discharge their sewage (sometimes treated and sometimes not) directly into the beautiful and once pristine waters of Alaska. In February of 2013, the Alaska Senate passed a bill relaxing state standards for cruise ship wastewater discharge. Unfortunately, the bill strips a requirement approved by voters in 2006 that makes cruise ship wastewater meet state water quality standards at the point of discharge.
Why would we allow the discharge of sewage in a beautiful place? Why would we ruin a once un-touched paradise in favor of profits by large corporate cruise liners? Please sign the petition urging Alaska representatives to protect coastal waters.
