We commend Coca-Cola's outspoken support of LGBT communities. Because you understand the importance of equality, we must ask that you truly show your support by withdrawing Coca-Cola's sponsorship from the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
The Olympic Games have long stood for unity and equality, yet next year they will take place in a country where LGBT people are not accepted and where gay propaganda has been outlawed by the governement. Russia is even threatening to arrest 'openly gay' tourists.
As a company that has been a leader among corporate allies, you have the opportunity to make a strong international statement for equality.
Please withdraw Coca Cola's support of the Sochi Games and maintain your reputation as an advocate for LGBT rights!
On June 11th, Russia's parliament passed a bill that bans "gay propaganda" nationwide. The new law establishes steep fines for anyone daring to equate the value of same-sex relationships between consenting adults with relationships between individuals of the opposite sex. A week later, they passed a bill that outlaws the adoption of Russian children by foreign same-sex couples.
The 2014 Winter Olympic Games will take place this February in Sochi, Russia. Since this law was passed the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has assured the world that "athletes of all sexual orientations will be welcome at the Olympic Games." Yet this law not only mandates the actions of Russians but also of visitors and tourists - including olympic athletes.
Coca-Cola has surpassed other companies in their vocal support of LGBT equality. Through ads and their support of LGBT events like the NYC Pride, Coca-Cola now has the opportunity to stand up for global equality.
Please help us by signing this petition to ask Coca-Cola to withdraw their Olympic sponsorship for 2014.
