To Our Friends Of The Military:
What if you could reach out to military families to say 'thank you' while providing meaningful support for one of these families for an entire year? You can, through the Heroes Flag Project! Your message of support will be combined with others in the form of a 10' by 16' American Flag banner. Once completed, the banner will tour military facilities across the state of Missouri and southern Illinois. Following the tour, the banner will be displayed in the Missouri Capitol rotunda during Veteran's Day week in November of this year, and then occupy a place of honor for perpetual display as a testament to the service and sacrifice of those, and the families of those, who have worn the uniform of the Armed Forces of the United States.
"There are roughly 50,000 members of the active military, guard, and reserve and their families who call Missouri their home," said Dave Woolley, Vice Chairman of the Board of H.E.R.O.E.S. Care. "Of these, around 5000 are deployed at any given time. More than 500 of these families will require the critical support H.E.R.O.E.S. Care provides."
H.E.R.O.E.S. Care is a collaborative effort between four charities working together to provide comprehensive care for service members and their families in the communities where they live. Military families are assigned to specially trained caregivers who have priority access to organizations that provide emergency financial and material support, job training and placement services, and confidential mental health care before, during, and after deployment.
"Sometimes the wounds of war are unseen," said Dr. Randy Tobler, physician and host of Vital Signs on 97.1 Talk Radio. "The H.E.R.O.E.S. Care program provides holistic support to military families mitigating not only the physical effects brought on by the stressors of combat, but is designed to address factors that affect the human spirit in ways we are just beginning to understand. Factors which can be life threatening if left unaddressed."
For $100, donors can include their personal message of thanks as part of the flag banner while providing year-long program support for one military family. For $1,000, individuals, groups, and businesses can be a named sponsor of one of the 50 stars on the flag banner and provide a full year of program support for ten families.
"When organizations commit to working together on behalf of military families, more and better things can happen", commented Rear Admiral Lee Metcalf, USN, Retired, and the program director of the St. Louis Regional Alliance for the Troops (RAFTT). "H.E.R.O.E.S. Care is an excellent example of an effective community based partnership program in action."
