My name is Kelli Stein. I developed NorthEast Pit Rescue and Sanctuary (aka NEPRAS) after many years of rescuing animals with my family, along side of working with at-risk youth as a side job. While working with at-risk youth, I found animal therapy to be the most beneficial. After years of trying to figure out how to connect the two ideas and incorporate them into my own non-profit, I did it! The purpose that fuels N.E.P.R.A.S. is an ingrained sense of duty to provide a safe haven for at risk youth and similarly downtrodden animals. By allowing these affected juveniles to participate in the rescue of animals, N.E.P.R.A.S. hopes to impart a disposition that prevents these dire circumstances from perpetuating.
When I worked my side job with at-risk youth, I quickly learned that the programing we have for these youth is not at all beneficial for them or society.
I personally think that At-risk youth and abused animals have much more in common than most people think. It is very important for these at risk youth to be rehabilitated in a natural environment so they can become educated and prepared for the working society instead of just using our welfare system. By contributing to our funding, we would be one step closer to purchasing our property to house the animals and have a facility for this natural therapy to exist with these youth. We want our facility to be like no other. These animals will not be housed in kennels, but sectioned off areas, where they will be able to live in their own cabins. We have our eye on 2 properties with about 30 acres of land.
What We Need & What You Get:
We are hoping to raise $300000. $200000 will be going towards the land. $30000 will be used on the fencing, for each "gated community." $70000 will be used to build the cabins which will house the animals and a few will be built to house youth on overnight stays for volunteer opportunities. We want our organization to be talk about all around the world!! We want to keep growing and expanding including kids from all over the world. We need your help to do it!
The point of our organization is to not only rescue and rehabilitate animals from high kill shelters, but to prepare our at-risk youth for society by meeting their therapeutic needs through animal compassion. By these youth completing our volunteering program successfully, they will be able to use us as a reference for the job world. Once we get more consistent funding we would like to be able to offer full and part-time positions for the youth. Our main goal with this organization is to decrease the amount of youth using the welfare system, and to increase the amount of employed at-risk youth!!Other Ways You Can Help
We understand financial times are tough. We would like if everyone could spread the word about our organization. Our website is www.nepras.org
