Chattanooga is turning into a model food hub of the south. Chickens are an important part of building a more sustainable urban environment.
A small number of well-kept hens are quiet and pose no public health concerns. These "productive pets" can also provide healthy, organic eggs and fertilizer for home gardens. We request a fair and affordable ordinance on this issue so that sustainability-minded citizens can safely, and legally, own chickens.
We, the undersigned, request the Chattanooga Mayor and City Council restore our right to chicken ownership within the city limits with reasonable restrictions put on the pet owner and a sensible, affordable permitting fee.
