This summer The Federation of Galaxy Explorers goes global! Our Director of Mission Teams, Juli Lawless, and Director of Events, Stephanie Eftimiades, will climb Mount Kilimanjaro with the Galaxy Explorers' flag in support of bringing astronomy education to children in Africa. For every $20 raised, Galaxy Explorers will provide one of our Galilean telescopes to a child in Tanzania. An integral to the Galaxy Explorers' curriculum, these are a fun and easy way for kids to build and use their own telescope. Our goal is to raise over enough money to provide two 25 child classrooms with these stargazing tools!
For those new to Galaxy Explorers, we are a non-profit children's organization educating kids in space-related science and engineering. Our "Mission Teams" meet monthly during the school year, and in the summer we host space camps. Explorers learn about 5 primary themes:
By ascending towards of the open sky of the world's highest freestanding mountain (19,341 ft!), Juli and Stephanie hope to inspire children around the world to embark on their own personal journey to reach for the stars.
The FoGE Reps will document their 8 day trek via blog and video diary at Summit2Stars. You will have the opportunity to follow along and donate to this venture, where 100% of proceeds will go to the Federation of Galaxy Explorers' mission.
If you have any questions, or would like more information, please feel free to email us.
