ATAA - Assembly of Turkish American Associations

ATAA president Mehmet Celebi has demonstrated gross insensitivity and disrespect to the Turkish community who had exercised its civic right to free speech during Gezi Park protests. The peaceful Gezi Park protesters have been beaten, tortured, unfairly detained, and excessively sprayed by toxic gases.
During the month of June, at least 4 people lost their lives, countless got injured and some ended up being permanently disabled by losing an eye. The police brutality against the people was documented and dissented by the Turkish legal community as well as the international human right organizations like Amnesty International.  Apart from dissenting this major violation of human rights, by his statements, Mr. Celebi betrayed Turkish American community he was supposed to represent.

Signed,

TC Artemis Ozten
