Pledge to support food education schools

This pledge closed 5 months ago

We believe that food education should be available for every student in every school in America and that improving food education will not only help to reduce healthcare costs, it will also protect the health and wellbeing of our children and families, and enable the next generation to make life-long healthy choices. Do you believe the same? Act here today.

Why?

Healthy diets are essential for a long and healthy life, but children lack the knowledge to make healthy food choices. One-third of children in the U.S. are obese or overweight while a further 17 million are hungry, many kids are so out of touch with what's on their plates that they don't realise real food doesn't come from a box, and on average elementary students get just 3.4 hours of food education per year. Along with families and communities, we believe that schools need to teach children about food and nutrition, where food comes from and how it impacts their bodies.

How will food education help children?

The more children know about fruits and vegetables, the more likely they are to eat them. The more children help to cook real, wholesome food from scratch, the more they will appreciate and enjoy it. By getting food education in schools, we will ultimately cut healthcare costs and allow not only our children to create healthier lives, but also future generations to come. Considering that today's generation are on track to have shorter lives than their parents; now is the time to act.

To help us with our goal of building a base of support, we urge you to sign today and join people all across the U.S. who have stepped up to support so far.

Get Food Education in Every School is a joint campaign between the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation and Food Day. Find out more here.
