Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) Sullivan County will conduct a Centennial Campaign, with a kick-off celebration on Friday, July 12, 2013, and continuing through late fall 2014. The goal is to celebrate our past and the impact we have had in Sullivan County over 100 years, while outlining a vision that will carry us forward into the next century. The purpose of the Centennial Campaign is to recognize and honor the dedicated individuals, organizations, and businesses that have played a vital role in the success of CCE. The "Extension Story" will share the heritage of Cooperative Extension in the county through youth-driven interviews, historic exhibits, photographs, articles, letters, and cherished tales of old. This campaign will highlight CCE's role in 4-H youth programs, farming, and transitioning original home bureau groups into the world of family and consumer education. Several special, centennial celebration events will be held, including a traditional barn dance, a NYC event spotlighting the importance of local agriculture to city dwellers, a marathon-style trail hike, and a gala extraordinaire to bring the campaign to fruition. Contributions from fundraising efforts will go towards further cultivating the CCE Gerald J. Skoda building and grounds sustainably and as a living environmental education center, awarding educational scholarships in the agricultural field, developing a community entrepreneurial kitchen and local agricultural hub, enhancing youth outreach, managing CCE-owned forest land, expanding a highly-trained, professional staff, and strengthening core programming that reaches all corners of Sullivan County.
