We, the signed, want the sale and use of cruel leg hold, coil spring, Conibear (or body gripping), and snare traps made illegal.
80 other countries around the world have already concluded these traps to be egregiously torturous and cruel, and have banned them completely. It is time for the United States of America to move up to the 21st century regarding treatment of our wildlife. Many citizens from other countries are shocked to hear that the United States has not made this compassionate leap forward.
No animal suffers more than an animal caught in any of these traps, experiencing severe physical pain and distress--equaling torture; in addition experiencing hunger, thirst, exposure to elements and predators, separation from family and young.
Words cannot describe this kind of torture, therefore, I am enclosing photographic documentation of the undeniable cruelty of these devices. Only 2% of Americans claim that they trap animals -- but those 2% create a mountain of misery for innocent, defenseless animals, that do not deserve to suffer just for being in the forest or river home, and going about the business of being the animal they were born to be.
It has been proven that trapping is not an economic issue for this 2%, and in fact, many admit they 'do it for the fun, as you never know what you're going to get'. The main point being, traps are cruel, inhumane, and torturous to wild animals and dangerous for domestic pets and humans,
Please, in the name of common decency and the American way, ban theses Draconian devices for all time -- it is not only about time to do this, it is well overdue.

Compassionate people should sign this petition to lay the groundwork to get cruel and barbaric traps banned, as they equal hours of torture for our wildlife. Some trappers literally continue to torture an animal after it is trapped---laws must be passed to protect wild animals from the whims of any sadist who can buy a trapping license for $16.00 and use our forests and waterways as a barbaric playground. In addition traps are a danger to domestic pets, and humans.
