Nationally, an estimated 1.6 – 2.1 million youth and young adults ages 12-24 experience homelessness over the course of one year (Congressional Testimony, Understanding Homeless Youth, 2007).
In Los Angeles county alone, an estimated 5,000 – 15,000 youth live on the streets.
21 – 42 % of homeless youth have experienced physical and sexual abuse (Homelessness Resource Center, accessed 2013).
Homeless youth exist on the fringes of society. They are difficult to identify, hard to count, and their voices remain unheard. These are youth that have "fallen through the cracks," and without intervention, they face the prospect of chronic homelessness.
Jovenes, Inc. is a family and support system for those who have none. Our Continuum of Care focuses on youth ages 18-25 in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles, providing them with sustainable, affordable permanent housing and access to a broad spectrum of services to help homeless youth become independent adults.
mission is to provide opportunities to disenfranchised youth and families that
enable them to become active and integrated members of the community.
Join the fight against youth homelessness and spread the word about Jovenes. Awareness is crucial in strengthening community resolve and transforming youth into community assets, not liabilities.
