Pledge to tell 10 friends about Lance Corporal Paul Burns

This pledge closed 3 months ago

Can you share this.... Paul Burns was a paratrooper who was blown up by the IRA at Warrenpoint in 1979 ! He has sadly passed away aged 52

Paul, an extraordinary achiever and BLESMA hero, an injured survivor of Warrenpoint 1979, died suddenly in hospital in Berkshire on Friday 7th June.

He was recovering from a broken leg, suffered whilst participating in the 3 Counties Bike Ride the previous weekend.

Paul was an extraordinary man and his recently published autobiography "A Fighting Spirit" is a true story modestly told but truly inspirational. He always went for challenge whether it be on BLESMA ski biking in the Alps, skippering a 65 foot yacht with an all amputee BLESMA crew on the tough Fastnet offshore sailing race, passing on his skills as a sailing instructor on the Gwenilli Trust for disabled sailors, horse riding, canoeing and much else besides. He was an extraordinarily nice man who was always calm under pressure and a classic BLESMA mentor., In the great BLESMA tradition of Member looking after Member, he reassured those recently injured that there was indeed a life ahead and inspired so many to seek it out.

He viewed his life as a gift having so nearly lost it - he would sometimes admit that he wanted to do so much because the 18 who died at Warrenpoint could not.

Paul Burns will be remembered as a good man who suffered much and overcame all.

Below are the details for his funeral
