ASA Athletes, Coaches, Administrators and SA public that loves athletics

ASA has its own constitution and democratically elected the ASA board in 2012. We all acknowledge that ASA has administrative problems but our constitution allows us to deal with it.

SASCOC's suspension of the ASA board and their appointed administrator has only brought further chaos in our sport and misery for our athletes.

The IAAF has given a ruling.

  • It is binding on the Athletics community internationally.
  • Athletics SA is part of that community.
  • SASCOC claim they will appeal to the IOC, but the Olympic Charter states that Athletic Federations are autonomous, so they will not intervene.
  • SASCOC claim they will go to Court for Arbitration of Sport (CAS), but they can't as they have no jurisdiction firstly, and secondly the IAAF have not suspended ASA yet. Therefore ASA must first be suspended by the IAAF before SASCOC can appeal to CAS against the IAAF suspension.
.I trust you can see that our athletes stand to loose in his unnecessary crossfire.

Signed,

Carl Meyer

How this will help

The IAAF only recognizes the current ASA board and not SASCOC's intervention. Your signature will help our athletes to have the continued opportunity to compete Internationally.

SASCOC's...

The IAAF only recognizes the current ASA board and not SASCOC's intervention. Your signature will help our athletes to have the continued opportunity to compete Internationally.

SASCOC's intervention threatens a possible suspension of ASA by the IAAF which will cause ALL our athletes being prevented from participating internationally.

Even if you don't approve of the current board it is important that we use our ASA Constitution to deal with those issues.

Because ASA and its members are bound by the IAAF Constitution, we are bound to follow its directives. That means we are bound to follow the letter. Which means that no-one in SA Athletics can recognize Majavu any longer, and must recognize the board elected in 2012 (for all its flaws)

Anyone in SA Athletics who refuses to recognize the current board puts themselves at risk of excluding themselves from international recognition and participation.

With your support and signature and the power of numbers supporting this petition we will use all means available to request SASCOC to do the honorable thing and allow ASA to run its own affairs free from their intervention.
