Sign the Petition to

Gerald M. Feierstein, US Ambassador to Yemen

We urge you to use your influence to end U.S. drone strikes in Yemen, which only help garner new recruits for extremist groups and spread anti-American sentiment. The US should, as it does in the case of Afghanistan, apologize to civilians who have been harmed and offer compensation.

We hope you will urge President Obama to repatriate Yemenis at Guantanamo who have been cleared for release, and to ensure that all Yemenis remaining at Guantanamo are either released or charged and tried in a fair and transparent proceeding.

Lastly, we urge you to press for the release of  Yemeni journalist Abdulelah Haider Shaye, who holds President Obama responsible for his incarceration. Haider Shaye is a well-respected journalist who has exposed important stories, including the role of the US in the 2009 Majalla airstrike. The public deserves this information, and journalists should not be punished for their writing.

Thank you for your consideration.

Signed,

The CODEPINK delegation to Yemen is calling on U.S. Ambassador Gerald Feierstein to use his influence to end U.S. drone strikes in Yemen, which only strengthen extremists; to help release Yemeni prisoners from Guantanamo who the U.S. government has already cleared for release; and to advocate for the release of Yemeni journalist Abdulelah Haider Shaye, who is in jail for reporting that the US was responsible for the 2009 airstrike in Majalla that killed dozens, including 14 women and 21 children.

Sign this letter to Ambassador Feierstein, and we'll hand-deliver it while we are in Yemen!
