A petition from the campaign to
Dear Mayor Wilmar Arantes:
Abadiania, Brazil is a very special town, blessed with great energy, surrounded by beautiful farmland, and inhabited by wonderful people.
One of these wonderful people is the heroic, compassionate Dr. Turene Frazao Parente Jr. DVM, who is now known the world over for his Saint Francis-like love of animals, large and small. Many tourists and visitors to see the renowned medium, John of God, have been forever touched by Dr. Turene's compassion and warmth, and many have taken home a street dog or and cat with his immense help in attaining their papers and vaccines.
But now this hero, instead of being awarded by the city he calls home, may be evicted instead, the beloved animals he's saved and housed to be euthanized, just because he has not yet raised enough funds for a sanctuary in the countryside-- to replace his home/clinc which he and his veterinarian wife have sacrificed for their welfare.
Abadiania has much farmland, and one of the best vets in Brazil, Dr. Turene. Why not work with such professionals and help them? By lifting your decree of euthanization and offering land for a sanctuary, word will spread of how a small town chose to confront the animal population in an innovative way: A sanctuary where a veterinarian curbs the population--not by culling of animal souls-- by spaying, neutering, compassion and love. A farm-like setting where children can visit and learn about these sacred beings before the dogs and cats are adopted as pets.
Countries have created such sanctuaries world wide, and the result is enhanced tourism, an inflow of tourist economy, and a constructive answer to a problem
We, the animal-treasurers of countries worldwide, hope you will take the higher ground, and we thank you in advance.
Signed,
Lisa M. Cherry

Help support Dr. Turene Frazao Parente Jr. DVM, who, under a decree of the former Abadiania mayor, is in imminent danger of having the street dogs and cats he's housing at his clinic euthanized unless the new Mayor--Arantes--declares the decree of Mayor Gomez null and void. And unless he can raise $50k to create a sanctuary elsewhere.
