Arne Duncan, U.S. Secretary of Education

We respectfully request that you protect the public school performing arts programs by making them a national policy priority. School performing arts programs create a significant opportunity for children to learn how to balance school work and practice while learning how to work together as a team. The performing arts give the students the chance to realize their potential through cultural enrichment and personal achievement and growth.

Arts are a primary, cultural, academic core subject that must be funded as consistently as math, language arts, science, and history/social science. Opportunities to learn through the arts are disappearing as arts programs are being eliminated or defunded leaving teachers with the task of teaching these subjects without the proper tools. These programs are an integral part of education as they teach discipline and hard work leading to a better work ethic. They teach students how to follow AND how to lead. We urge you to protect the Performing Arts Programs for future generations.

Signed,

Jake Bauman
