Sign the Petition to

Jim DeMint, Heritage Foundation President

I did something I wasn't expecting to do last night.

I was a guest on The Rachel Maddow Show where we discussed immigration and a report released by The Heritage Foundation, a leading conservative think-tank.

Watch the clip below.

The report claims that immigration reform will cost taxpayers $6.3 trillion in new spending. Ugh. What it neglects to mention is the amount immigrants pay in taxes, or how immigrant communities contribute to the economy in myriad other ways - as detailed in this Immigration Policy Center fact sheet - or data from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, which shows immigration would actually cut the deficit over 10 years, by about $12 billion.

But here's the real thing the Heritage Foundation's report neglects to mention: every policy and dollar deals directly with real people. Real lives and real families. Immigration isn't a debate about dollars.

So I made a public challenge.

Watch the clip above where I ask Jim DeMint, a former U.S. Senator and head of Heritage, to invite undocumented people of all backgrounds to visit their D.C. offices and talk about our lives and the contributions we make to our country.

I’m used to uncomfortable conversations, but my request is the same as always, let’s talk.

Will you support this request publicly by signing this petition? Thanks for having our back!

Signed,

Define American
