As many of you know, my son Jackson was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension in August of 2012.
Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) is a chronic and currently incurable disease. PH refers to high blood pressure in the lungs due to the arteries in the
lungs narrowing. The right side of the heart has to work harder to push
blood through the narrowed arteries. Eventually, the extra stress
causes the heart to enlarge and that stress and fatigue can lead to
heart failure. PH can occur at any age, even at birth and it affects
people of all races and ethnic backgrounds. In some cases PH is
associated with another medical condition such as congenital heart
disease or other lung disease; and in other cases the cause is not known
(idiopathic PH). While research has come incredibly far in the last 15
years or so, with 9 approved PH therapies and many more in the pipeline,
none of these therapies is approved for use in children.
Jackson will be 2 on June 23rd. I am challenging all of my family and
friends to make a donation of $2 (or more if you can!) to the Pulmonary
Hypertension Association in honor of Jackson turning 2. Please help us win the PHight and find a cure!
