People for responsible comprehensive planning

Reinstate the compliance to the Comp Plan and return public safety, health, review, impact assessments, and environmental protections to Articles 1 - 16 in the Land Use Codes. A mandated Comp Plan provides a measure of checks and balances, transparency, and accountability to the public for permits issued, and provides an umbrella standard for creating land use codes with public safety, environmental protections, and local enforcement within that process.

Without compliance, the Comp Plan is nothing more than a discretionary advisory document without legislative protections for the public. Permits can be issued or denied at the discretion of the county commissioners without public review or impact assessments in unincorporated Garfield County.

Individual property rights are sacred to all, and should be respected as a Constitutional Right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. When land use affects and impacts public health and safety, the land, water, and air quality, then we need protections. A "right" by definition means equity for all, not some. Please return the compliance language in its entirety to the Garfield County, Colorado Comprehensive Plan 2030.

Signed,

Anita Sherman

The public has a right to discuss and review high impact industry permits before they are issued in unincorporated Garfield County. The landmark SCOTUS ruling, which gave corporations - national and global - unlimited opportunities to dictate the terms of local policy throughout the US, has turned many local elected officials into paid industry lobbyists in control of our public funds and budgets.

Garfield County, CO is just one of many counties across our nation that has been hijacked by global corporate interests, using local government to create industry friendly land use codes. Public voice is being eliminated in the process of public policy, allowing corporate interests to create rules that pollute for profit with no regard for public health, safety, or environmental protections.
