In 60 AD Roman legions who had invaded the British Isles acting on the orders of Emperor Claudius massacred the Druids on Anglesey Island, off the coast of North Wales. No one was spared under the Roman sword and the thousands of people killed, men, women and children were thrown into open pits. The Druids who were the moral and spiritual authority of the indigenous population, were leading the resistance to the Roman occupation of their homelands; and sacrificed their lives and those of their families with the hope that Britain would remain free. The slaughter of the Druids in 60 AD could hypothetically be compared to an invading army destroying the Vatican and murdering the pope and the archbishops of the Roman Catholic church during the middle ages. To this day, over 2000 years later, no official recognition of the Druids sacrifice has ever been noted by the governments of Great Britain in the form of a Day of Remembrance.
