On your website you mention that you are committed to environmental and sustainable practices, but your use of styrofoam clearly goes against that statement:

"Our Planet: We recognize that everything we do has an impact on the environment. From the materials we use, to the way we construct and operate our stores, we are committed to adopting better, more sustainable approaches whenever possible." - The Dunkin' Donut's Website. [1]

We demand that you stop using styrofoam cups in your coffee shops and switch to a more environmentally sustainable option.

I'll be the first to tell you that I support Dunkin' Donuts. I love their chocolate donuts and iced tea. However, what I don't love is that most of their hot drinks are served in styrofoam cups.

Styrofoam cups are used to keep drinks insulated, making them appealing to coffee shops like Dunkin' Donuts, but styrofoam's direct impact on the environment makes it impossible to support any enterprise that produces and sells these cups with their product.

Dunkin' Donuts is responsible for sending 1.2 billion non-decomposable styrofoam cups to the landfill each year through their coffee sales.

Styrofoam cups do not biodegrade, are not easily recycled, and are having a detrimental impact on the environment. Paper and plastic cups are alternatives used by other coffee franchises across the nation, and we demand that Dunkin' Donuts change its practices to put the environment first.

Styrofoam cups cost $33.50 dollars for 1000. Alternatively, plastic cups cost $57.62 for for the same amount while paper cups cost $47.55 [1]. It is obvious that Dunkin' Donuts has used Styrofoam to reduce their total costs, it's time for us to tell them that this is unacceptable.

Styrofoam is created from benzene and other chemicals that contribute to smog and global warming. It is not biodegradable and therefore contributes to extraordinary landfill pileup.

Many cities, including San Francisco, Oakland, and Seattle have banned styrofoam containers from local restaurants. As a leader in coffee sales, it's time that Dunkin' Donuts take leadership over it's environmental impact and switch to using paper or plastic containers.

We urge Dunkin' Donuts to stop using styrofoam immediately.
