Dear Ambassador Michele J. Sison,
We write to inform you that a delegation of the purported “Buddhist” extremist group Bodu Bala Sena, including its secretary Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thero and national organizer Witharandeniye Nanda Thero, is planning to travel to the United States in the near future to propagate the aims of their organization. As you may have heard, the Bodu Bala Sena advocates and agitates against the rights of minorities in Sri Lanka especially people of the Muslim Faith. You have also heard that they resort to physical violence, extra-judiciary arrests, mob action and intimidation to advance their cause. Their actions erode the mental and physical security of minorities especially Muslims.
The actions of this extremist group can have a significant impact on a country still reeling from the effects of a 30 year old war. These impacts can range from irreversible damage to the post-war fragile reconciliation process to the resumption of ethnic conflict.
Their mission to the United States will allow them to galvanize extremist elements in your country not only from amongst the Sri Lanka diaspora but possibly also from anti-Islamic elements in other communities.
We implore you to deny them this opportunity.
