Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Inc

Why not pledge to improve road safety by doing 3 simple things!

  1. DRIVE SO OTHERS SURVIVE! (DRIVE SOS!)
  2. WHEN APPROACHING AN INCIDENT - SB30 (SLOW BY 30 kph)
  3. IF YOU SEE SOMETHING DANGEROUS THEN SAY SOMETHING!

If you can do these simple things, then commit to the Challenge!
Practical Ideas for Road Safety Here are some practical things you can do to improve road safety. 1. DRIVE SO OTHERS SURVIVE!Share the road responsibly and make allowances for  other drivers, riders, cyclists and pedestrians. Its less stressful if you choose to be patient and courteous! ·
  • Keep attention on the road ahead and drive to the speed limit.
  • Maintain a 2 second (minimum) interval from the vehicle in front.
  • Take regular breaks every 2 hours, and change drivers if you can, change drivers.
  • Plan to give yourself 5 extra minutes each time you begin a journey.
2.  WHEN APPROACHING AN INCIDENT – SB30 (SLOW BY 30 kph) Actively safeguard the lives and health of all road users, especially those who work on our roads to protect and assist us (ie. Police, Fire & Rescue, Ambulance, Tow Truck Drivers and Roadside Assistance)
  • When approaching an incident, breakdown or crash, slow down and if safe to do so, move into the lane away from the incident.

3.  IF YOU SEE SOMETHING DANGEROUS THEN SAY SOMETHING!
  • Report dangerous sections of our roads and highways and if necessary, commence a campaign for action.
  • Join with others in challenging road planning, road construction and maintenance as well as road rules, that do not place people's safety first.

What SARAH Inc believes:

i) Each person's life is precious and can therefore never be ethically traded off against traffic mobility.  ii) No person should be placed in harm's way simply because of poor policy, poor planning, poor maintenance or poor procedures;  iii) Each of us must drive to actively protect other road users, and especially those road users involved in, or assisting at, a crash, breakdown or other incident!
