Student/Farmworker Alliance (SFA) is a national network of students and youth organizing with farmworkers to eliminate sweatshop conditions and modern-day slavery in the fields. We work in alliance with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW), a Florida-based, membership-led organization of mostly Latino, Haitian, and Mayan Indian low-wage workers. We understand our work—which formally began in 2000—as part of larger movements for economic and social justice.
The Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) is a group of farmworkers from a region of Florida known as the "ground zero of modern-day slavery." Over the past 15 years, 9 major investigations and federal prosecutions have freed over 1,200 Florida farmworkers from captivity and forced labor. For the past thirteen years they've fought back against multinational corporations that keep the supply chain murky and exploitative. They've demanded the justice and fairness that every American deserves.
By building a multi-racial national coalition of people of faith, students, and workers of all kinds they have convinced 11 of those corporations at the "top of our food chain" like Taco Bell and McDonald's to come to the table -- for the first time in history -- and speak directly to farmworkers. Those 11 corporations then have signed the farmworkers' own Fair Food Agreement. This agreement is bringing about a new day of justice in the tomato fields of Florida. All of your tax-deductible donations to the Student/Farmworker Alliance will go toward supporting our Nashville group in the journey.
PS. Even $10 means a lot to me. Thank you so much. The donation button is top right of this page.
