Dear Los Angeles Times:

The Electronic Music Alliance and its members urge you to please report fairly about "raves."

Electronic dance music scene has been growing and evolving for over 20 years, both locally and worldwide, into a vibrant culture. Yet your most recent articles perpetuates a false representation about our music and festival culture. The focus of the coverage was only on the few negative incidents. Similar incidents unfortunately occur in any large sporting event, concert or festival setting.

Writing about these negative incidents without putting them in context of similar problems in other genres creates misconceptions, incites fear and intolerance. These articles also ignore the contributions of art, charity, joy, and kindness by the electronic dance music culture.

Electronic dance music culture fosters unity and collaboration and advocates for peace, respect, and compassion amongst not just our members but in the larger society. We are asking that you do a fair report and investigate the many societal and economic benefits electronic dance music culture provides.

Sincerely,

Signed,

The Electronic Music Alliance

We urge the dance music community to support this petition by sending a unified message to The Los Angeles Times and other news/media outlets to encourage the writers to report fairly and unbiased.  Fear based reporting not only lacks integrity, but encourages discrimination toward a community that is peaceful and continues to strengthen in diversity and culture which provide a landscape of positivity for our evolving society.  We are the Sound of Change!
