As reported in public records from DHHR, the residents of the Veterans Nursing home in Clarksburg, WV are being physically and mentally abused.
There was several incidents reported such as:
*** Reports of abuse not being reported or investigated in a timely manner
*** A resident with a cardiac pace maker protuding through the skin
*** A resident falling and 4 hours later being sent to the ER for evaluation and having a fx hip
*** Staffing was reported at 33 when actually there was 26 or less staff and that including staff in orientation
*** Residents nails dirty and unclipped
*** Dignity issues
*** Money stolen from residents
*** Residents not being shaved
*** Staff not properly trained
*** 347 documented medication errors
*** BM protocols not being followed leading to constipated residents
It is more than evident that the Administrator and DON are not properly or adequately managing the facility by the report from the DHHR. There is not proper staffing, education for the staff to prevent medication errors and no communication between management and other staff.
We are asking the Governor and Veterans Assistance for the following:
Kevin Crickard and upper management such
as Director of Nursing, Tom McVay be replaced in the best interest of the VA
nursing home facility. The large amount of deficiencies show the facility is not being managed properly.
2. Bidding be opened so new agencies can come in and provide adequate staffing
3. Pay rates increased to be comparable to surrounding areas, so as to compete with UHC and the new Highland hospital
4. The VA nursing home be required to staff above state minimum, to provide adequate and appropriate care to the Veterans
5. Tom McVay be required to provide proof that money made by him and his wife by selling lunches in the front lobby were not for personal gain and the money went to the Resident counsel.

Veterans are being evicted for speaking out about the abuse. These Veterans should not be treated so poorly. The staff should be paid comparable to other facilities. The Veterans Nursing home is constantly understaffed which is putting these Veterans at risk to be neglected.
