TOMORROW I will depart on a mountain bike to ride 250 miles across the mountain, valleys, and plains of the Eastern Himalayas. Along with nine other riders I will share an incredible journey from Darjeeling to Kathmandu as we seek to raise awareness and support for Broadleaf Health and Education Alliance!

About the organization, Broadleaf is a startup non-profit currently active in 7 primary schools in the rural hill villages surrounding Darjeeling.  In 2012 (our first year), we completed 18 infrastructure projects (toilets, running water, classrooms), taught 546 lessons on health and hygiene (nutrition lessons, germ theory, etc), and improved the well being of over 450 kids through health and vision screenings, deworming etc. Broadleaf is a nimble organization, we keep our overhead costs low and only hire local Indian staff.

While most of the money that got our organization off the ground was funded through the generous grants provided by Harvard University and the American Indian Foundation, this year our budget is running off of money raised largely through last year's bike ride- THANK YOU! It is with your continued generosity that we are able to continue to impact the lives of the children in the communities in which we work and hopefully (in the near future) scale and expand our programs to be able to effect as many kids as possible.

Every dollar you donate will directly aid Broadleaf HEA in providing underprivileged children in the Darjeeling Hills with a comprehensive school health program which promotes their learning and development.

Thanks in advance and feel free to:

This ride is as much about raising awareness as it is about funding our work- please spread the word about our ride and organization! * We do accept donations via PayPal as well (preferable to Causes because we are charged lower processing fees): http://broadleafhea.org/Broadleaf_Website/Donate.html.  Broadleaf is a U.S. registered 501(c)3 and all donations are tax deductible. Please be sure to leave contact information (rather than donating anonymously) if you would like a contribution letter for tax purposes.

Thanks for your support of an absolutely great cause!!
