Peterborough is looking to form a casino within the city limits.
One location idea: Brown Sea Base was purchased by the City Of Peterborough and the city is looking to place the new casino along the shores of Little Lake. This is a disastrous idea - not only will it cause mass amounts of upheaval/change to the waterfront as we know it, but add extra pollution to our waterways that are already at a dangerous level.
Second location idea: East City. This is one of the last places in the city that remains "untouched" by modernism - old trees, beautiful historical buildings - the current layout of this section of city would not be able to handle the increased traffic let alone the destruction of scenery.
Third location idea: The Parkway & Fleming Drive. The area here has already been deeply affected by alteration - a new Tim Horton's, Visitors building and a vast concrete field - a large portion of woods and wetland was destroyed for this. Any further alteration would obliterate any place left for the creatures that were already removed for this mess.
Publically proposed ideas:
First location idea: Peterborough Square. The mall is failing. The benefit of increased business to other downtown stores/restaurants would be incredible. This would maintain jobs, create new jobs and breathe new life into our downtown core. The building is large enough to house a casino. It already has 2 escalators and an elevator for disabled access. There is plenty of underground parking. No new ground would need be broken, nor any added environmental stress would be caused by placing the facility here.Second location idea: Portage Place. Another failing mall with plenty of room for the building and parking with minimal environmental impact. Easy access to the Lindsay highway, cottages, and with the Parkway expansion access to the 115.
