On May 4th I will be attempting to complete Tough Mudder - a hardcore 12 mile-long obstacle course designed by the Special Forces to test strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. It is billed as 'probably the toughest event on the planet' and previous courses have included runing through fire, scaling 12ft walls, swimming through ice water, getting electrocuted, running up a half-pipe, crawling through tunnels half under water, jumping off a 15ft platform into ice water and many more! (see www.toughmudder.co.uk).
This is definitely going to be one of the biggest challenges I have ever undertaken so to spur me on I am asking for your support. Any money donated will go directly to Broadleaf Health and Education Alliance, a non-profit organisation dedicated to innovative approaches to community development through health and education in rural areas of the Eastern Himalayas. I spent 10 weeks living and volunteering on a tea estate near Darjeeling in 2007 and fell in love with both place and the people so this charity is close to my heart. I have seen first hand the real need for health education and provisions in the area.
Every pound you donate will go directly to Broadleaf, which will provide primary school children with access to clean drinking water, toilets, health education programming, de-worming intervention, wellness promotion, developmental and mental health screening, and a dedicated community health worker to provide basic health services within their communities.
