(click the "..." box below to see the rest of the page)Dear Mr. George Greig, I am writing to you because I need your help in saving over 6,000 ferrets from Triple F Farm and to end their suffering. This is a cruel and inhumane facility in Bradford County PA. I have written to the USDA three times and have had no response. I have written to the Humane Society and they told me they could not help, that the matter was in the hands of the USDA. So I contacted the USDA who I was told by the HSUS that they have the right and the power to revoke their license and shut down the facility. I have written to the USDA three times and have had no response. I have written to the Humane Society and they told me they could not help, that the matter was in the hands of the USDA. So I contacted the USDA who I was told by the HSUS that they have the right and the power to revoke their license and shut down the facility. The USDA inspectors confirmed PETA’s finding from its 4 month undercover investigation of Triple F farms ferret Mill. After a federal investigation found violations of a least 8 animal protection regulations. Triple F Farms agreed to pay more then $16,000.00 to settle the matter. The company also agreed to pay more than $28,000.00 to settle 38 violations of federal labor laws uncovered after PETA submitted evidence to the U.S. department of Labor. The Bradford County District Attorneys Office went in and found probable cause to file cruelty to animal charges but for some reason deferred prosecution. Triple F Farms is a ferret breeding factory farm whose animals are sold to laboratories around the world and pet stores across the United States. Triple F boast that it is “ one of the largest and most esteemed ferret producers in the world” and that their babies are very special to them. But, PETA’s undercover investigation exposed a massive ferret breeding mill keeping thousands of ferrets confined in over crowded filthy, stifling hot barns, where the animals suffered chronic neglect and died on a daily basis. PETA’s investigation found that ferrets were kept in small cages with dangerous wire floors, deprived of any opportunity to engage in natural behavior such as burrowing and hiding, and often deprived of food and water. Newborns, young and adult animals were systemically denied basic veterinary care for even painful, life threatening injuries and conditions. Bloody rectal prolapses, gaping wounds, herniated organs, ruptured and bleeding eyes, infected feet and inflamed swollen mammary glands are just some of the ailments that the investigator saw ferrets suffering and sometimes dying from during her employment at Triple F farms. The investigator routinely brought attention to Triple F’s owners, management, and supervisors the suffering of individual ferrets at the facility but to no avail. The investigators repeated requests for care and speedy euthanasia to relieve suffering were met with blank stares, shoulder shrugs and general indifference, as the investigator was instructed to “ just leave” ferrets as they wee. Hundreds of newborn and young ferrets fell through the gaps in the wire cage bottoms 3 feet to the waste covered concrete floors below, where they were left to writhe and cry, and often died of dehydration or starvation within sight of the mothers and siblings. Ferrets are very caring of their young and this brought on depression because they had no way to help their young. Triple F forbade workers, including the investigator to pick up the dying newborns. Many of them were consequently run over, maimed, and or killed by carts used to move supplies through the facility’s aisles and many were stepped on and buried in feces. After running them over they were kicked to the side of the aisle. The investigator also saw ferrets thrown into the trash and into the facility’s incinerators while still alive. What kind of cold hearted people are running this place? Triple f did not have a veterinarian on staff to examine and treat the more than 6,000 ferrets confined in sheds on any given day. Lay employees worked in a dusty” surgery room” and used unsterilized instruments including dull needles and a razor blade over and over again to cut organs and anal sacs from ferrets who were not properly anesthetized properly and woke up and cried out. The workers held them down until the procedure was finished, Just imagine the pain they went through. The investigator never saw a veterinarian of a vet tech At triple f in the 4 months working there. PETA has submitted formal complaints to seven federal and state agencies and I have contacted the HSUS and the USDA, the CDC, and the Senator of PA. And the congressman of Bradford county and the first Lady of the United States. Yet, nothing is being done to stop this and remove the ferrets from these horrible conditions and the nightmares the ferrets are living there every day. In addition to the horrific living conditions, pain and suffering that these poor ferrets endure the investigator also discovered the following: · Ferrets who fought, likely as a result of stress and over crowding were left caged together to as one supervisor put it “work it out”. · Many ferrets suffer from advanced eye infections and mastitis , a terribly painful and often fatal infection of the mammary glands. · Ferrets were denied hiding places, mental stimulation, or any form of enrichment as well as relief from the wire cage floors for their sensitive feet. Ferrets are very intelligent beings and need human interaction and stimulation to thrive. · Cages were only cleaned every 3 to 6 weeks, forcing ferrets to eat and sleep just a foot away from piles of feces built up in the cages- an unnatural condition for any animal. Triple F ferrets mills were filled with overwhelming odor of feces and urine and rotting carcasses on the floor. I have been adopting ferrets for 10 years and I clean their cages daily, and let them out to play with toys and each other and my family. · Temperatures in Triple F’s ferret mills- where the stench of feces and ammonia from ferrets urine and rotting carcasses was overwhelming- reached 99 degrees. In the summer months I put the AC on for them at 69 degrees. Heat kills ferrets! I have been adopting ferrets for 10 years. They love people and are great pets. They weigh approx. 1 to3 lbs. In normal conditions they are known as the clowns of the animal world. They are very funny to watch as they dance and run and play with toys and each other. I am very upset about how these ferrets are being treated. The USDA has seen how bad life for ferrets are in the hands of these people. The HSUS told me that the USDA has the power and the right to revoke Triple F’s license. WHY HAS THIS NOT HAPPENED? People are outraged that the USDA is not doing it’s job and closing this place down. WE WANT ACTION TAKEN!!! And not just another fine, when you fine a company $17,000.00 for 8 counts against the Animal Welfare Act they must think this is a joke. When they have contracts worth 1.5 million and $400,000.00 this is pocket change to them. I understand that the USDA has closed the case against Triple F Farms and have decided to look the other way. WE THE PEOPLE DEMAND THAT YOU RE-OPEN THE CASE AND CHARGE THEM WITH CRUELTY TO ANIMALS. I have started a petition on causes .org. I have over 1200 signatures to Put an End to Triple F Farms ferret mill. If you haven’t seen the video and would like to go to causes.org where it says causes type in Triple F Farms click on where it says Put an End to Triple F Farms. Read the letter I sent to the HSUS, scroll down and you’ll see a bay ferret dead on the floor. You’ll see ^click right image for video^. I cry for them every time I watch it. Can you PLEASE help me to save them. I look a my ferrets and see how happy they are, they play wit toys and anything they can carry away. They love each other. They sleep in hammocks and sleeping bags. I watch that video and I see depressed and spirit broken ferrets that are so unhappy and suffering is all they know. We cannot let this go on. Most people think ferrets are insignificant beings. But lets remember they are part of Gods Creation.
