In the 2 min. video above, you'll meet Jean-Paul, a bright student who received his first bicycle when he was 15 years old at our Foundation Rwanda Bike Build in 2010. Jean-Paul is one of the estimated 20,000 children that were born of rapes committed during the 1994 Rwandan genocide. His mother Isabelle continues to struggle on a daily basis with the legacy of genocide, sexual violence, and poverty. When asked what her dream in life was, she replied with one wish – a better future for her son.
Foundation Rwanda is launching the BIKE TO A BETTER FUTURE campaign to help fulfill Isabelle's wish and the wishes of so many other mothers like her. The campaign will launch April 8 to coincide with the 19th anniversary of the genocide in Rwanda. In Rwanda, a bike is a life saving tool – one bike helps 5-10 people in a village get access to water, food, school, medical treatment, and jobs.
Your support of this project will:
Join us in making wishes come true. Give a bicycle. Give hope for a brighter future.
