Every year, the beer tax escalator increases the tax on beer by 2% above the rate of inflation, and with 2 weeks to go too the budget, Pubs are to be hit by record duty tax.
Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne plans to increase beer tax by 5%.
If he succeeds in doing so, it will bring the rise up to a staggering 50% over the past five years.
The British Beer Pub Association [BBPA] claims that if the beer duty escalator is scrapped, it would save 5000 jobs, and this would increase over the years too 10,000 by 2015.
Enough is enough, we have to urge the Government TODAY to freeze the beer duty escalator, or we may see the Pub tradition killed off in England.
We are calling upon supporters of all pubs and taverns to email their MP asking them to write to the Chancellor urging him to scrap the beer duty escalator. This can be achieved via the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) website at http://tiny.cc/emailyourMP
