Today, nearly half of all high school athletes will suffer at least one injury in the course of their athletic season. Young athletes are at the highest risk for injuries because their bodies are still changing and they are, often, unaware of the proper technique for an exercise unless they are taught it by an adult. Most sports injuries occur as a result of overuse of a particular muscle group or as a result of improper technique. These injuries, if untreated or mismanaged, can lead to serious physical problems later in life. This does not have to be the case. If proper education is provided to athletes, coaches, and parents, and if coaches and parents work together with the athletes, the occurrence and severity of sports injuries can be severely diminished.
