The Berkeley Student Cooperative Board of Directors has been in negotiations with the Employee Association (EA) since October 2012 and has proposed drastic cuts to workers' health benefits, retirement, and paid time off. In addition, the Board Negotiation Team has requested that six employees, three full-time and three part-time employees, be removed from the EA, leaving these employees without job security and benefits, while severely weakening the small 20-member union. Many of these employees have worked here for over twenty years and have invaluable insight and expertise in the inner workings of the BSC but feel disrespected and devalued, and are considering leaving the organization because the cuts are so severe. The African American Themed House urges all members to join in solidarity with the EA to protect workers' benefits, to encourage the Board to cooperatively reduced costs to the organization rather than cutting from employees, and to preserve and support the EA union. As the largest cooperative in North America, we believe that the BSC should be the vanguard of great benefits. Stop the cuts and union busting now! Restore the philosophy of a cooperative which is intrinsically tied to treating our members and employees well. Sign the pledge today, and place your respective house in parentheses next to your name.

Perserve the integrity of our cooperative organization, which is rooted in the seventh Rochdale Principle of "Concern for the Community," and end the corporate-style cuts which directly attack a vital part of our BSC community -- our employees.
