It is my belief that because the US Congress and the President of the United States are cohorts in negotiating and approving the United States Federal Budget, their compensation should be tied to their success or failure.  Therefore, since sequestration represents a failure to negotiate a reasonable budget that addresses the size of the federal budget, revenues, the deficit and the National Debt, members of the US Congress and the President of the United States should have their compensation reduced in conjunction with across-the-board cuts to federal programs.

Signed,

Mike Monkman

Besides elections, which are truly a performance review on elected officials, and polls there is little accountability attached to how well or poorly members of the United States Congress and the President of the United States achieve the fundamental requirements of their job.  One of the most important of those requirements is balancing policies, priorities, revenues and expenditures to create a thoughtful and respectable federal budget through negotiations and the passage of a budget package.  The sequestration represents a failure of all sides to reach an agreement and acts merely as a default to real action.  Members of the US Congress and the President are elected to take action.  Failing to do so should not be rewarded.  Therefore, I would like to encourage participants to sign this petition that attaches compensation to fiscal accountability and performance.  No action = a pay cut.
