The mobility issues of people with disabilities have not been solved in Armenia during the past 20 years, chairman of Paros NGO Suren Ohanyan said at a news conference today, International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
"We do not have visible changes that would have changed the life of people with disabilities. Much time is needed to register visible results," he said.
"The provisions of convention on people having disabilities have not become reality in Armenia. The reason is the tardiness of the state. We perceive everything slowly," Suren Ohanyan said.
He also stressed that the NGOs are voicing the issues of people with disabilities but these issues are not being solved.
Ohanyan said the public transport must be accommodated to the people having such issues but at the same time stressed that the issue is being voiced over the years but remains unsolved.
The NGO's chairman says the state should be held accountable for the not implemented activity.
Executive director of "National Alliance of Protection of Rights of Persons with Disabilities" the union of legal persons Mher Vasilyan said while solving the issues of handicapped people it is necessary to take into consideration their opinion as well.
"Armenia lacks availability. No matter how much jobs are created and events be organized for the people with disabilities they cannot enjoy them as there is no availability," he said.
