Up to Us: NYU, a participant in the nationwide Up to Us campuscompetition, is hosting a speaking event with Professor Jonathan Haidt. The event will focus on the politics behind the deficit reduction debates. Professor Haidt will discuss Republican and Democrat preferences for dealing with deficit reduction, why neither side has much incentive for long-term fiscal responsibility, and provide some recommendations on what students can do to make a difference. This event is

Professor Haidt is a leading social psychologist and the Thomas Cooley Professor of Ethical Leadership at NYU Stern. He is also a New York Times bestselling author, one of Foreign Policy's Top 100 Global Thinkers, and a speaker at the 2013 Davos World Economic Forum.  

Up to Us is a nonpartisan competition that challenges students to engage their peers on how fiscal issues impact their opportunities. Up to Us: NYU is competing with teams from 9 other universities to build an effective campaign that includes events, social media, and numerous creative tactics. The competition is sponsored by Clinton Global Initiative University, the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, and Net Impact. The judging panel includes George Stephanopoulos ofABC News, Chelsea Clinton, and the chairs of the Simpson-Bowles deficit commission, Senator Alan Simpson and Erskine Bowles.

We will be handing out DOUBLE entries for our iPad and iPod Touch giveaway, and two lucky attendees will win a $25 Pret or $30 City Cakes giftcard! Food will be served.
