The Jersey and Guernsey Fuel Consortia, Channel Islands Politicians

Dear Members of the Fuel Consortia and those responsible for ensuring the safe supply of fuel to our Channel Islands:

We the undersigned wish to ensure our supply of super unleaded fuel to the Channel Islands is maintained and not interrupted. As consumers we feel it is our right to continue to receive this to allow us to run our vehicles in line with the manufacturers recommended fuel grade.

If supplies are stopped, this will cause significant issues to many Channel Islands residents who run cars which require a higher level of octane petrol. We understand although sales have declined there is still a significant volume of super unleaded being sold through the islands outlets. For some, in the absence of super unleaded fuel, re-mapping of the engine management system would be an option, if not time consuming and expensive. However for others, their cars and bikes cannot be re-mapped and engine damage would likely occur.

This will also have a significant impact on the ability of the island to attract motor sport events. Motor sport rules ban the use of octane enhancing additives.

We view the Jersey and Guernsey Fuel Farms as strategic island assets and are concerned at this latest announcement and the seeming lack of notice which has been given. After a period of many many years of super unleaded being available, it would appear that consumer choice is being reduced after a relatively short period of time since the consortium took over the running of these.

There may well be an alternative on the horizon but frankly having to wait for it with no supply in the meantime (or certainly from 1st March) just isn't really viable.

Signed,

Jimmy Gray
