Dr. Johann Brink, Clinical Director of Colony Farm / FPH

We the undersigned, demand that you immediately stop the cruel and inhumane housing of patients with Autism and Aspergers Syndrome in isolation cells in Colony Farms / FPH. We demand that all people with Autism / Aspergers Syndrome at your hospital be allowed to receive treatments and services from qualified Autism Specialists.

We further demand that you immediately allow CLBC to begin working with FPH to provide appropriate services for Ben Cohen so he can be swiftly transitioned into the community by May 26th 2013.  These services are to include, but not be restricted to the use of CLBC provided one-on-one workers to accompany Ben into the community until his discharge, and the inclusion of an Autism Expert, to be approved by Ben and his family, to work side-by-side as part of Ben's treatment team to create a transitioning plan and it's implementation, so Ben can reside in the community where he belongs.

We also demand that you speed up the transitioning of Aaron into the community so he is residing in his group home full-time by his birthday July 7th 2013.

Signed,

Chahna Verney

How this will help

These two young men are being housed at a government psychiatric facility in isolation cells for years at a time under the guise of "treatments" and "risk management" strategies and it's all because they have Autism/Aspergers Syndrome.  They are also denied any support or treatments from autism experts.  If a parent did this to their child in the community they would be arrested! Ben and Aaron are being denied their basic human rights and are living in isolation and torturous conditions with no end in sight. Many people with more difficult behaviours are currently functioning very well and safely in the community. Help give Ben and Aaron a chance at life. Thank you.
