Sign the Petition to

Martyn Cheatle, Midlands Co-operative Society

Dear Martyn

We do not want Chesterfield to lose the department store that has been a part of our lives, our parents and our grandparents lives.

We do not want Chesterfield Town Centre to become a collection of chain stores, charity shops and pound stores. We value the Chesterfield Co-op because it sells quality goods and charges reasonable prices. If the Co-op closes we will be forced to shop online for appliances, toys, cosmetics, home and kitchenwares because there is nowhere else in Chesterfield Town centre that we can buy these products.

I urge you to consider other ways of keeping the store open, such as a management buy-out, and advertising campaigns to encourage people to shop there, instead of buying online, highlighting that they will lose the town centre if they continue to do so.

Signed,

Wendy Kirkland

This is a petition not just for the Chesterfield Co-op, but for the town centre and for local employment. If we lose this store there will be fewer jobs and lower quality goods available in Chesterfield Town Centre. It is the last of the independent stores in the town. Plus, it is the only department store owned by an ethical organisation and deserves to be supported.
