Jindo Dogs are South Korea's national dogs and they are officially designated as South Korea's "Natural Monument No. 53".  This though is a meaningless travesty!  The Jindo Dog promotion project launched by government only serves to drive numerous Jindo dogs into the horrendous dog meat industry.  According to the investigation by an animal welfare organization in South Korea (http://koreandogs.org/?p=4519), dogs that do not meet the breed standards set by the government, conducted biannually at Jindo county(the supposed Jindo dog protection area) are being sold to dog meat traders!  The national monument ends up as dog meat soup.  In the summer when the dog meat consumption reaches its peak, dog traders can drive by these villages as often as every 3-4 days collecting unwanted and rejected Jindo dogs.  Their investigation reveals that the screening process for Jindo dogs is vague and subjective making the screening meaningless.  The Kennel Clubs of the world stand by and allow this to continue.  In a society where 2 million dogs are being eaten each year, this type of promotion only serves to line the pockets of certain people and drive the so called "ugly" Jindo dogs into dog meat markets.  Most of all, their taxpayer's money is being spent in this process.

This is a shame and disgrace of South Korea. We ask the new president of South Korea, Honorable Geun-Hye Park, to put an end to this Jindo Dog registration program immediately and end the dog meat trade in South Korea once and for all.  This will be the only way to restore the tarnished image of South Korea as an inhumane and cruel nation of animal abusers.

Sincerely,

Signed,

Inseok Chun
